Independent Writing Project Summary
Students love to read fiction and it’s no surprise they love to write it! As a follow-up to the Independent Reading Unit, students will be provided an opportunity to utilize previously learned reading concepts ( characterization, plot, conflict, and theme)to create a work of fiction on their own. This unit will also serve to allow students the freedom to choose their own topics and develop their independent writing lives. Students will develop and write independent pieces from across the writing spectrum, including fiction and poetry and playwriting, as well as websites, short films, and graphic novels. It's incredibly exciting to see. Students really care about their writing again. Students will immerse themselves in the writing process to experience what real writers go through to create published pieces and release them into the world. Students will investigate mentor authors to develop, cultivate, and revise their work in order to produce a refined piece of writing.
